The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond is Britain's most complete Georgian playhouse in its original form. Built by Samuel Butler in 1788, the theatre was in regular use until 1830. The building is grade 1 listed as “a building of special architectural or historical interest". In 1960 the theatre was restored and reopened in 1963 and in 2002 a second, very extensive restoration was undertaken and the theatre reopened once again in September 2003.

Situation

Bluestone Solutions Limited has supported the Georgian Theatre’s IT systems since the last restoration began in 2002. We provide ongoing support of their systems with regular visits to the Theatre; this is backed up with remote proactive monitoring of their server and network.

During 2005 and as part of a continuing improvement process, the theatre offices were to be relocated to a building adjacent to the main theatre building. After a series of detailed site surveys it was decided to install an additional structured cat5 cabling configuration in the new offices and link this to the existing network in the main theatre building. Working alongside the builders and electricians, Bluestone were able to complete and test the installation of the network without any disruption to the theatre’s working routine. When the new offices were complete we relocated and connected their IT and telecom systems and had the theatre offices back up and running within a matter of hours.
